Jacksonville police identify man killed in rollover crash

Jacksonville police identified a man killed in a one-vehicle Southside crash this morning as James J. Bartman Jr., 21, of the 7900 block of Merrill Road.
Police said Bartman was driving north in the 1800 block of South St. Johns Bluff Road near Atlantic Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle flipped, ejecting Bartman, likely indicating he wasn't wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective John C. Hurst of the Sheriff’s Office said the driver appeared to have drifted off the roadway and overcorrected before the vehicle rolled over.

Jacksonville motorcyclist killed in car wreck - Jacksonville Motorcycle Accident Lawyers

A Jacksonville motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car at Fort Caroline Road and Cesery Boulevard in the Arlington area of Jacksonville about 2 a.m. Friday.

Detective M.A. Knox of the Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide division said at the scene investigators had not determined the cause of the accident, but both vehicles were attempting to make turns at the intersection.

The motorcyclist, 49-year-old Timothy S. Yates, was taken to Shands Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries where he died a few hours after the crash, according to a news release. Yates, who was not wearing a helmet, had just turned 49 Thursday.

The man driving the car and his female passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Knox said.

Two men arrested in what could have been a disastrous road-rage shootout on Interstate 95 Sunday offered an insight into the psychology of aggression on the highway when each sought police to report the other's actions, experts said.

No one was injured in the rolling gun battle that ended with four bullet holes in a Scion, including two in the car's cabin, and included a volley of gunfire by the Scion's driver, who shot across the passenger seat where a woman was sitting, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Two dead in Baker County car wreck

Two men died in a two-vehicle crash in Baker County Monday morning, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported.
Arthur Hewett, 61, of Lake Butler, and Charles Sharp, 21, of Jacksonville, were killed in the crash on State Road 121 about two miles south of Interstate 10, according to the FHP.

A Pontiac carrying Sharp and David Moody, 31, of Orange Park, was traveling south on SR 121 when the vehicle crossed the road's center line and struck the left front of a Toyota pickup truck driven by Hewett.
